Kampala: The latest information landing on our news desk indicate that slain city tycoon Prince Henry Katanga’s one of his two official vehicles, commonly known as “Mpa Enkoni” went missing from home moments after his gruesome murder.
Close family sources on condition of anonymity, because of the sensitivity of the matter told our Spy that the car was driven out of the gate by a family member on orders of one of the closest relatives of the key suspect, Molly Munanukye Katanga, and that is highly connected to the first family through ‘Sexually transmitted relationship‘, having bore children with the first family. The source feared to reveal the name and we shall leave it at that.
Molly Munanukye Katanga has been officially married to Henry Katanga since 1991 and their love life resulted into three beautiful children namely; Martha Nkwaanzi, Patricia Kakwanza and Arthur Katanga.
According to sources, Katanga’s car was driven out of home, reportedly, either to be sold at one of the popular malls around Bugolobi where it was sited, or hidden from investigators days after his death because it could contain some ‘useful’ information. “That’s his very favorite car he used to drive mainly, but a few days to his murder, Katanga told close friends and relatives that he feared to move in it, reportedly, after sensing that he was being trailed. He had opted to camouflage in a less known car few days to his death. In fact,he had even told his lawyer and close relatives that he needed to write his will before his lawyer and a close relative,” the source divulged.
This corresponds very well with part of state prosecutor’s submission, Jonathan Muwaganya, where he told court that the deceased was in the process of meeting his lawyer to write a WILL before he met his gruesome murder, pointing to the effect that he could have got wind or signals of threats probably from with in his family circles.
According to sources, this car is vital in investigations in that, it could have had some vital information like documents.
This greed for property was further seen last Wednesday at the very first appearance of Molly Katanga before Nakawa Court to be officially charged of murder of her husband. On her first day in court, where as late Henry Katanga’s relatives and friends were seeking for justice for their relative’s gruesome murder, his wife, whom he fully wed, Molly Katanga’s lawyers, this time round led by senior counsel Peter Kabatsi had strict instructions from her to extract a court order to force security at their home, a scene of crime to vacate so they could have ‘a quiet possession’ of the same.
They also specifically demanded for the keys to the master bedroom, the exact place where Henry Katanga’s body was found lifeless!
This act rubbed Henry’s relatives the bad way to the extent that they could be heard murmuring during court session wondering as to why Molly and her relatives were more interested in the property than the lost life, which made them anyway.
They argued that atleast she needed not to bother so much about the property at this sad moment and first focus on finding justice for her late husband.
Below Is A Full 15 Paged Application For An Inquest, See The People Supposed To Interrogated For Their Various Roles Played Since His Murder👇👇👇👇
Application-for-Inquest“Now her relatives want to occupy the home immediately in order to block Henry’s relatives from ever accessing it, so it’s the fight for property that lingers in her head, not the life of the one who made them. But secondly, what if investigators after some time still want to revisit the scene of crime for more evidence, especially the master bedroom where he died from, why are they rushing to enter it? Now, the man is dead, the wife is going to Luzira prisons,so, who wants to sleep in the master bedroom that faster?!” a relative posed a question to the media outside court after the court session.
Infact, to put it more plainly, in a 15 paged court application for an inquest by Brig.Gen Karara Freddie Macwa and Barnabas Taremwa, who are related to Henry Katanga, they put it in plain English for all sandry that Patricia, a step daughter to Henry Katanga and her mother Molly Munanukye jumped over Henry’s dead body and first made multiple billions bank transactions at a forest Mall Bank and later drove to IHK and Molly got ‘admitted’ to Intensive Care Unit as soon as she arrived.
Background The Saga
Katanga was found dead in his bed in Mbuya Chwa road 11 on a Thursday, November 2 2023.
The cause of his death remains controversial with his biological daughters (Martha Nkwanzi Katanga, Patricia Kakwanza) and wife Molly Bunanukye Katanga (widow now) pointing to domestic violence, while other close relatives claim that family property disputes may have led to his tragic death causing a deep division within the family.
Since the investigations and court proceedings began, key suspects in the gruesome murder including Molly Katanga, Martha Nkwanzi, Patricia Kakwanza , Dr. Charles Otai, and George Amanyire, a domestic worker at the deceased’s residence have all been remanded to Luzira Prison.
Before being formally charged, an arrest was issued against Molly Katanga after she snubbed court summons on several occasions claiming to be admitted at IHK apparently recovering from surgeries performed after she was allegedly injured during the violent fight that claimed her husband’s life.
According to prosecution, Molly Katanga, with malice aforethought, killed her husband on November 2 at Mbuya, Chwa 2, in Nakawa Division, with the help of their daughter Nkwanzi.
Furthermore, on the same day, Nkwanzi and Kakwanza are accused of removing or destroying potential evidence at the crime scene, with the intention of preventing its use in judicial proceedings.
The incident happened after an alleged misunderstanding with his wife whom he worked with at their procurement and supplies firm called MERGE which had penetrated the system and would transact with government agencies with huge classified budgets.
A police report referenced SD21/02/11/2023 at Bugolobi police station indicates that Katanga was shot at close range and that no bullets and fragments were recovered after Katanga’s body which was delivered at the city mortuary on November 2.
The report further indicates that Katanga’s body was wrapped in a mattress cover, stuffed in a vehicle, and transported to Mulago hospital mortuary.
The details of who moved the body remain a subject of ongoing police investigations.
Police said it retrieved a pistol number UG1622200061CZ99 compact that is suspected to have been used in the commission of the crime.
Shortly after his death, inside sources revealed that Katanga was allegedly murdered hours before he appended his signature on a WILL that he had prepared a week earlier and kept it in a safe box inside his office.
Sources further noted that Katanga had prepared the necessary paperwork documenting all his wealth and had only shared that secret with his sister, Naome Nyangweso and his lawyer.
At the time of his death, another source within the family revealed that Katanga had just made a transaction of shs16 billion.
“Besides working with Molly, he had other different lines of making his own money including money lending. He had so far gotten shs16 billion,” a source who preferred anonymity revealed at the time.
Katanga had been taking care of a number of orphans of his dead siblings and loved them as his own children including the two children of his sister Naome; Timothy Nyangweso and Marjorie Nyangweso.
Relatives highly anticipate that Katanga was planning to distribute all his property equally in a WILL among his biological children and other orphans which could have annoyed whoever pulled the trigger to end his life.
“The plan was to kill him that very day because there was no time to wait since he was planning to leave home and sign the papers,” another relative said.
According to Naome, Katanga’s lawyer was aware of the death threats that his client was facing and his death did not surprise him that is why he(Katanga) was racing against time to finish the WILL which was never a success.
While as Katanga could have prepared and signed the WILL a little earlier, he was busy with arrangements for giveaway and wedding functions for his foster daughter Patricia alias Tricia for over two weeks.
Tricia is among the suspects, and she was remanded to Luzira prison on murder charges. At the time of the shooting, Tricia confirmed to police that she was present and revealed how her father and mother got a misunderstanding before she heard a gunshot.
Katanga was one of the Ankole princes while his wife Molly is a relative and close confidant to key government and security officials who are allegedly trying to save her from facing murder charges.
