Joint security agencies operating within the Kampala Metropolitan Area have arrested more than 200 suspects in a series of coordinated, intelligence-led night operations aimed at curbing rising cases of crime, drug abuse, and robbery.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala, the operations were conducted between 5:00 PM on 20th May 2026 and 5:00 AM on 21st May 2026 across multiple locations in Kampala, Wakiso, and Mukono districts.

The targeted areas included Clock Tower, Kinyoro, and Kitende Zone in Makindye Division; Kalerwe in Kawempe Division; KKB Cell, Mutungo, and Kitende Wards in Wakiso District; as well as Wantoni, Nabuti, and Ngandu in Mukono Central Division.

Security teams recovered several exhibits during the operations, including suspected opium, housebreaking implements, identity cards believed not to belong to the suspects, and money transfer cards.

Police said the crackdown was prompted by numerous complaints from residents regarding increasing incidents of mugging, robbery, and drug-related activity in the affected communities.

“All suspects are currently in custody pending screening and subsequent court proceedings,” Kawala said, adding that the operations were based on intelligence gathered over time.

Security agencies noted that the coordinated raids form part of a broader effort to strengthen law enforcement presence and enhance public safety across the metropolitan area.

Authorities further confirmed that similar operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and reduce violent crime in Kampala and surrounding districts.
